The fruit growing team of the Ministry of Economic and Productive Development of Río Negro, made a tour of the cherry producing companies of Chimpay, with the aim of accompanying the producing companies after the damage caused by the storm that affected the place a couple of days ago.

“We are always subject to climate changes, although the harvests were at a percentage greater than 80%, only four days of harvest were lost with exportable volumes and/or fruit of very good quality for the Domestic Market,” highlighted the secretary of Fruit growing, Facundo Fernandez.

Climate change is noticeable year after year, and although cherry-producing companies have tools to protect against frost and mechanized irrigation systems, in the face of heavy rain storms in short periods, the fruits absorb water through their skin instead of doing it through the root and that causes the breakage of the shell and the loss of the fruit.

The harvest volumes were produced according to forecast estimates and the quality is, as always, very satisfactory. The cherry is an emblematic product for Rio Negro with growth potential in a qualitative segment of high demand, both in the domestic and foreign markets.

Regarding the damage caused by inclement weather, the Ministry is accompanying the affected producers, carrying out damage assessments to take appropriate measures, according to local authorities.
