Chilean Fruit Association sees growing consumption opportunities in China

The International Fruit Expo will take place from 1 to 3 September in Guangzhou, China, and will bring together the most relevant actors in the fruit industry. The fair presents itself as a perfect opportunity for Chilean fruit companies to learn about and access the Chinese market.

The Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) through its Cherry Committee will be present at this event, and in that context, Smartcherry spoke with its Executive director, Claudia Soler.

What is the relevance of the Fruit Expo for Chilean companies?

In terms of Chile and its fruits, especially cherries, the International Fruit Expo is an important event because it is organized by two relevant players in the fresh fruit movement within China, such as China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA) and the China Fruit Marketing Association (CFMA), which focuses on the import and export business. While CFNA includes the main importers and exporters of domestic fruits. Each of these organizations represents a significant group of members throughout China.”

In addition, this fair, which used to take place in Beijing, is now held in Guangzhou, the main port and entry city for Chilean fruit in China, and generally for imported fruit.

Likewise, the date on which it takes place allows participation in other important events such as Asia Fruit Logistica.

What benefits could this fair have for cherry producers or suppliers?

These types of events are always positive because allow for direct relationships with buyers, distributors, retailers, and fruit importers. Additionally, since representatives from wholesale markets and other areas within China also participate, it helps to enhance, for example, a greater presence of Chilean cherries in second and third-tier cities, where we have also seen growing consumption opportunities.”

Does Asoex plan to launch the cherry season at this event? Or any other planned activities or meetings?

During our participation in this fair, we want to take the opportunity to highlight the start of the cherry season, meet with representatives and associates of the organizing organizations, and gather with trade and relevant actors in the distribution and logistics chain.

Are there any Chilean companies that have already been confirmed to accompany Asoex?

We are in the coordination process, so we will have more information on this later.
