Technicians and businesspeople connected to the cherry industry will debate for 2 days at the Cherry Day 2024 event, which will take place in Neuquén.
The most important technical-productive-commercial event in the country for the cherry industry, “Cherry Day 2024,” begins today in the town of Plottier, Province of Neuquén. The event takes place in a context of great concern among the sector’s business community, considering that a few days ago, the National Government announced the defunding of key sanitary programs for the export of Argentine cherries.
In this regard, it is not ruled out that today, during the opening speech of “Cherry Day 2024,” the President of the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Cherry Producers (CAPCI), Alejandro Zimmermann, may make some reference to the issue, considering the commercial impact of this budget cut on the sanitary programs promoted by the Nation.
Additionally, in this new edition of “Cherry Day 2024,” topics of utmost importance to the activity at both national and international levels will be discussed. It is the most important meeting in the region, aiming to provide attendees with all the necessary information to understand the variables that influence the growth and global development of this crop, with talks from prominent speakers from the country and abroad, who will analyze commercialization, with market analysis, and also technical factors related to crop production. The meeting point is Olivia Catering & Events, located at km 1230 of National Route 22, Plottier, Neuquén.
“It will begin on August 28 with a day of conferences, and on the 29th, we will share a field trip to see the application of technology and crop management,” said the manager of CAPCI, Aníbal Caminiti, when consulted on the subject.
The objective of “Cherry Day 2024” is to seek a meeting point among all actors in the cherry productive-commercial system. It is a space for interaction, communication, and business generation. The conferences also aim at this: opening knowledge specifically to the needs that the activity in Argentina has today.
“Expectations are high; we have to think about new investments that must come to the country since the sector has a great opportunity to expand due to the suitable land and climate. We also have a ‘know-how’ that allows us to competitively position ourselves in markets worldwide,” Caminiti highlighted during part of the conversation with +P.
Among the international speakers who will be present at the event are: Jordi Casas, international technical advisor (Chile); Valeria Lepe Martínez, technical advisor specializing in nutrition (Chile); Gert Eastes, from Cherry Ridge (South Africa); and Peter Cornish, executive director of Fruit Grower Tasmania (Australia). Several local specialists will also participate, presenting various current issues facing the cherry industry.
