Yesterday, Fruit Logistica, the most important fruit sector fair, began in Berlin. In this edition, new products, machinery and especially new varieties were presented, which represents an important milestone for the industry.

Meda Cherry is participating in this world event and in that context presented at its stand the new varieties of cherries from the genetic program developed in California and selected in the USA and Chile by Viverosur.

This program has become known in the country for having early and good post-harvest varieties; one of them, Meda Rex, which is reaching the Asian market with very good quality and price reports.

Local outlets interviewed Alejandro Navarro.

This year, the Meda program has been launched in Europe, where the new varieties are being presented to the European industry, in order to satisfy their needs that seek Kordia-type quality varieties, but from 20 to 10 days before that variety, which fills a space that is not well covered today with fruits of great caliber, firmness, Brix and productivity.

For the German fair, Meda Cherry sent boxes of cherries of the Meda Bull variety (IVU 104) by sea, which was harvested in Chile 60 days ago and which stands out today in Berlin at this time of the year. Fresh-looking cherries, with green pedicels, great firmness and good caliber.

“It is seen that these varieties have an incredible post-harvest,” says Giampaolo Dal Pane, partner of the Innovation Fruit company, who works with this project in Europe and who explains to his visitors the benefits and differences of these varieties with respect to the traditional ones.

“We have had many visits from different countries, but the visits from Chilean companies that see our star fruit present in Berlin, where it is the only fresh cherry that can be seen at this fair, have been important,” concluded Alejandro Navarro, director of Viverosur and global Meda project manager.
