Chile to host the 48th International Apimondia Congress

The Local Organizing Committee has provided a positive update just weeks before the world's premier beekeeping event takes place. Thousands of attendees and beekeepers from over 120 countries are expected to participate.

The event is set to take place from September 4th to 8th at the Espacio Riesco convention center in Santiago, with sponsorship from the Ministry of Agriculture, Indap, ProChile, the Foundation for Agricultural Innovation (FIA), the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), Sernatur, IICA Chile, along with Agroapicultura, Apicuality, Mieles del Sur, and the National Beekeeping Network.

Misael Cuevas, President of the National Beekeeping Network and head of the National Organizing Committee for Apimondia Chile 2023, states, “We are excited and prepared to welcome thousands of participants, including scientists, beekeepers, entrepreneurs, and authorities from around the world, to engage in this international event. It provides us a unique opportunity to learn about advancements in beekeeping, technology, environment, and food security. We look forward to welcoming you to this event, which is being held in the country for the first time.”

It’s worth noting that Chile currently has 10,504 female and male beekeepers who own 1,404,214 beehives. Within this community, 88.86% are small producers with fewer than 300 beehives each, 8.25% are medium-sized with 300 to 799 beehives, 2.0% are large with 800 to 1500 beehives, and 0.89% are very large with over 1500 beehives.
