As usual, the arrival of the first pallets of cherries generated great expectation in the market; With a large gathering of people who received and witnessed the opening of the first boxes of cherries.
The main variety present in the markets is Santina in 2.5 and 5 kg formats. As for the prices, these were very similar to those being paid for air arrivals.
“At first, most buyers were simply watching and were part of the excitement generated by the arrival of these first containers of cherry to the Guangzhou market. Buyers were cautious and waited for prices to drop and stabilize before buying. They looked for problems in the fruit so prices stabilized, making comments about sensitive fruit, soft fruit, pitting, splitting and some rotting,” said Agustín Cornejo, General Manager of QCFruit, who also added: “As prices stabilized more and more people started to buy”.
