India achieves first export of premium cherries and plums to the United Arab Emirates

The historic shipment, originating from the Jammu and Kashmir region, opens new international trade opportunities for local farmers and solidifies the country's reputation as a supplier of high-quality fruit.

India’s agricultural sector is celebrating a landmark event in its international trade. For the first time ever, the Asian nation has successfully exported a shipment of Areko cherries and Scentrose plums to the United Arab Emirates.

This achievement not only represents the opening of a new trade route but also global recognition of the dedication of horticultural producers in the Jammu and Kashmir region, an area rapidly establishing itself as a key driver of premium fruit production.

The historic shipment consisted of one ton of fresh fruit, carefully harvested by local farmers in the Shopian and Pulwama districts. From these fields, the shipment began its journey to the sophisticated markets of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, according to Fruitnet.

This achievement was coordinated and supported by the Indian Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, which highlighted the importance of this step in directly connecting small producers with demanding international consumers.

For farmers in the region, this event is much more than a simple commercial transaction, as it opens the door to better incomes and fair profitability that rewards the effort invested in their land. Sector authorities noted that international demand for premium Indian fruits is growing strongly and reaffirmed their commitment to continue driving quality improvement and promotion abroad.
