Regulatory changes in Argentina seek to boost new markets for Mendoza fruit

The fruit sector in Mendoza is projecting a new stage of productive and commercial growth following the implementation of regulatory changes in Argentina that seek to simplify processes, improve competitiveness and facilitate access to new international markets.

The regulatory changes (Resolution 21/2025 of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, published on February 10, 2025) primarily aim to reduce administrative burdens in the production and marketing of fresh fruit, while simultaneously strengthening the sanitary standards required by international markets.

Industry representatives emphasize that the updated regulatory framework will allow producers greater operational flexibility, especially regarding harvesting, fruit preparation, and export logistics.

Mendoza is one of Argentina’s main fruit-growing regions, with significant production of peaches, plums, cherries, pears, apples, and grapes, as well as a substantial processing industry. However, in recent years the sector has faced challenges related to rising production costs, logistical limitations, and shifts in international demand.

In this context, the new regulatory adjustments seek to create a more favorable environment for the industry, promoting greater efficiency throughout the production and marketing chain.

One of the central objectives is to facilitate market access and strengthen the international presence of Mendoza’s fruit, a key challenge in a global landscape where buyers are increasingly demanding higher standards of traceability, safety, and quality.

According to industry stakeholders, streamlining procedures and modernizing regulatory processes can help improve export times, reduce operating costs, and increase competitiveness compared to other producing countries.

Furthermore, the new conditions are expected to boost fruit production in the province, creating opportunities to expand exportable offerings and solidify Mendoza’s position in the international fruit trade.

For Mendoza’s fruit growers, the challenge now is to leverage this new regulatory environment to strengthen productive investment, improve the efficiency of cultivation systems, and expand their presence in foreign markets within an increasingly competitive global context.
