FEPEX highlights positive 2025 season for spanish cherries and plans promotion in China

The Cherry Committee of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, and Live Plants (FEPEX) analyzed the results of the 2025 season, which it deemed positive in both volume and price.

The organization reported that exports between January and September reached 43,604 tons, representing an 11% increase compared to 2024. In value, the increase was 38%, reaching โ‚ฌ188 million, according to data from the Customs and Special Taxes Department processed by the federation.

During a meeting, representatives from the main producing regions also discussed the terms of agricultural insurance for cherries. They agreed that current coverage does not meet the sector’s needs, which has led to a drop in policy uptake. Therefore, the Committee raised the need to promote improvements in insurance to adapt it to the current production and commercial realities.

Spanish cherries in China: The next step
Another key topic was the evaluation of potential promotional activities in destination markets, especially China. FEPEX hopes that, following the conclusion of the export protocol in August of this year, Spain will be able to begin cherry shipments to that country in the next season.

Cherries join other fruits already exported to the Asian giant: citrus fruits, peaches, plums, table grapes, persimmons, and almonds.

The FEPEX Cherry Committee is chaired by Josรฉ Antonio Tierno, president of the Association of Cooperatives of the Jerte Valley, and includes AFRUEX (Extremadura), AFRUCAT (Catalonia), AEAMDE, APEPH, and EXCOFRUT (Aragon), FEXPHAL (Alicante), and ARIFRUT (La Rioja).
