After one of the most complex cherry seasons in the history of fruit production in Chile, it’s time to do the analysis. Advisors Carlos Tapia, Walter Masman, and Jordi Casas will be part of the episode premiering tonight at 7:30 PM (EST) on Smartcherry TV, titled “What do we take away”? Balance of the 2023-2024 cherry season.
“Despite everything we experienced this season, it’s an overwhelmingly positive balance. We practically reached the same number of boxes exported as the 2022-2023 season, but undoubtedly, this requires a deeper analysis. Firstly, regarding early cherry production, early varieties, and in warmer climatic zones; I would analyze this, perhaps before and after December 5th, during which all early cherry supply in the warmer valleys was quite irregular in terms of yields, mainly influenced by climatic conditions,” stated Carlos Tapia, cherry production specialist and technical director of Avium.
Jordi Casas, fruit specialist advisor, and Walter Masman, advisor and consultant specializing in stone fruits and cherries, will also provide their assessment, addressing various aspects of the season, including the balance, scenarios, recommendations, among other topics. Additionally, together with cherry producers, they will analyze in detail situations that occurred in the orchards.
Also featured in this episode is Ignacio Botto, technical advisor at Avium, who visited an orchard in the Pichingal sector in the Curicó Region, where despite adverse factors, production increased by 40 percent compared to the previous season.
The premiere is tonight at 7:30 PM on Smartcherry TV, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, Chemie Agro, and UPL.
