Spain: Government Allocates 8 Million Euros in Aid for Cherry Producers

The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday the allocation of a budget of 8 million euros to assist the producers in the Jerte Valley (Cáceres) who have been affected by extreme weather conditions during the 2023 season, according to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) of Spain.

These grants will be financed from the 276.7 million euro package to support the agricultural sector included in the royal decree-law of measures against drought and to address the consequences of the war in Ukraine, approved by the Council of Ministers on May 4th.

During its session on Tuesday, the Council of Ministers added a provision with this specific measure for farmers in the Jerte Valley and authorized the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food to transfer the 8 million euros to the Autonomous Community of Extremadura.

A ministerial order will determine the amounts per hectare and the eligibility criteria for beneficiaries of this aid, as well as, if applicable, the payment deadline and individual limits.
