Global: Cherry exports reached 860k mt in 2022

The Northern Hemisphere had a 52% share of the world volume traded, while exports from the Southern Hemisphere participated in 48% of the total cherry exports.

The producing countries exported a total of approximately 860,000 metric tons of sweet cherry during 2022, according to the information gathered by IQonsulting.

During 2022, exports from the Northern Hemisphere had a 52% share of the world volume traded, reaching 447,000 tons in 2022 and an FOB value of 2,186 million dollars. This hemisphere is mainly represented by exports from Asia, where its largest representatives are China HK (28%) and Turkey (7%).

On the other hand, exports from the Southern Hemisphere participated in 48% of the total cherry exports worldwide, registering a volume of 409,000 tons and an FOB value of 2,254 million dollars. The Latin American continent is the main player, with a 47% share of world exports and driven mainly by shipments from Chile (46%) and Argentina (1%).

The Executive Director of iQonsulting, Isabel Quiroz, explained โ€œthe most important aspect that contributed to the success of the season was the relaxation of the zero COVID measures carried out by the Chinese governmentโ€. The opening began in mid-December, what favoured the Southern Hemisphere exports.
